Welcome To My Studio
Oil painter and watercolorist Dixie Tamcke was born south of the Tetons in Wyoming,
raised in the Rockies of Montana, and married a Northwest Washington man, raised two children
before pursusing her art. She has a great love for the beauty of our world since she has spent all
her life in some of the most beautiful areas the world has to offer. From mountains, forests, oceans
lakes, rivers, streams, wildlife of all kinds, fish, fowl and all different types of people.
When she was small and under foot, her mother, an accomplished artist, would give Dixie
a brown paper bag and a burnt stick of wood and send her out in the pasture to draw the Rockies
or the animals. Her mother has kept a scrapbook of Dixie’s art since she was two years old.
Dixie attended art classes in high school, and has since studied under Margaret Johnson,
Patty Templeton, Gordon Butcher, Shirley Germain, Teresa Saia, Joan Grout and Dale Germane.
She works from photographs, mostly her own, and–when our weather permits–goes out on
location. An oil painter for forty-five years, she also works in watercolor, pen and ink, and pastels.
